Just Keep Swimming

I love the character Dory from Finding Nemo! Her mantra of just keep swimming has gotten me through some difficult times and I think the idea of continuing even when there is an obstacle in your path is a really important lesson to learn.

I know as human beings we are presented with situations that make us feel like it’s the end of the world. Whether it is stubbing your toe, forgetting to pick up something at the grocery store, being late to an important meeting, whatever…

But sometimes a bump is just a bump. It will be inconvenient, it may even inconvenience you for a little while, but it’s temporary.

I think the thing that helps me remember to keep swimming when I am presented with these situations, is the idea of getting to the other side.

We overcome one obstacle, feel great, and then when we are presented with a new obstacle we forget that we overcame the first obstacle. Human beings are so resilient and we can overcome the situation again.

That is one of the coolest things about being a human in my opinion. We are presented with situations and we strive to overcome them and find a solution.

Is this always the case, no?

I can basically tell you that in any past romantic situation I was in, before my husband, at any bump in the road my partner gave up on our relationship.

So no, it’s not always easy to just keep moving forward in some situations.

But I get to look back on these times now and say how proud of myself that I was able to deal with the cards I was dealt and because of the experience, I have now become a better person.

So just keep swimming because you never know what tomorrow will bring.

Love always your Cycle Half,

Emily

I love when a movie aimed primarily at younger people includes such wonderful life lessons. I hope the younger people that see and hear something like that at such an early and impressionable stage in their life's are able to take it in and become better older people because of it.

Great post.

Great lesson.
