Shocking! I know. But it’s true. Social media consumption really does shape the way you look at the world. If you find yourself feeling a bit depressed or judgmental on your accomplishments, ask yourself how much time you’ve actually been spending on the Internet. Chances are you’ve accumulated more hours there than you have in real time.
It’s hard to trust your own judgment when you have the judgment of millions of others bouncing around at the click of your fingertips. So what’s the solution? Get rid of social media altogether? Sure, that’s one solution. For some people that’s not possible. See the world has changed and often times we must change with it in order to move forward in the world. Some people rely on the Internet for their jobs or for reaching out to loved ones or to access important documents through different web portals. Whatever the case, cutting off all social media and Internet cold turkey is just not possible for some.
What IS possible is using discernment when surfing the Internet. Ask yourself what’s the type of content you’re consuming? If you find yourself constantly comparing where you’re at in life versus where others are while you’re looking at certain things, then use discernment around how much of that you’re willing to consume OR don’t consume it at all. Give yourself a small window of social media time a day and then cut yourself off. There’s no need to be on your phone or computer ALL day.
When we pull ourselves away from the imaginary world that exists beyond our screens, we are able to step into the world that exist right before our eyes. And that’s the one we need to start really caring about the most so take some time to go outside, soak up some sun, touch some grass, And connect with yourself so that YOU can be the source of your own influence own life.
Much love as always,
Your Cycle Half - Stephanie
before social media we were already a species that is self critical and judged ourselves based on others. We don’t need it to exacerbate the issue.
I could go on and on on this issue however I will stop here.
